What a delightfully insightful read. I shamefully admit that I've never read any of George Elliot's work, also abandoning Middlemarch in a uni class. But this has inspired me to go back and read it! I will (in a few months) have my own Middlemarch summer! Thank you for the push.
Middlemarch is the BEST!! But also there's no shame in abandoning a George Eliot book lol she requires full commitment. I look forward to hearing your thoughts when you come around to it!
I have.... admittedly... never heard of Adam Bede, although I love the tone of this write-up and will be keeping my eyes peeled for it at used bookstore stops in the future ! Kind of seeming like the human error/ mundane tragedy elements here could vibe with Thomas Hardy's Jude the Obscure
